About Me

January 22nd, 2010

Hello.  My name is Robert Pendell.  I was born on May 6th, 1983 and a web techie.  To start off I will give you some background on my experience.

I started with computers in 1992.  My first computer was a Tandy computer that was sold by RadioShack.  I still remember it like yesterday, but to put things into perspective, it had a 486SX 25Mhz processor, 4MB ram, 200MB hard drive, and Windows 3.1.  That compares to my current laptop (seventeen years later) with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26Ghz, 4GB ram, 1TB total hard drive capacity, and Windows 7 Ultimate.  That is quite a lot of movement in the industry.  When I got my first computer I pretty much had that instant fascination in how it worked.  I would tinker with the software workings all day long and wouldn’t give in.  A lot of my knowledge today is based on what I learned then.  Oh another thing about movement in the industry.  Back then restoring your computer involved unzipping 2 zip files from a cd.  Now it is a full blown complicated image restore.  How is that for you?

Fast forward to now. I have sixteen years behind me in the industry since 1993.  Thirteen years troubleshooting and repairing computers.  I spent ten years freelancing for friends, family members, and coworkers at whatever location I worked.  This could be the basic “need to know how to do something” question to the full blown “my computer won’t turn on” issues.  I diagnose both hardware and software issues.  Currently I am employed at CenturyLink, formerly Embarq, since September 2006.  This has been a very fruitful period that have taught me a lot of things that I did not know previously including effective malware and spyware removal techniques.  My first two and a half years at Embarq  were spent doing DSL troubleshooting and the remaining time has been spent at a newly developed department called RescueIT which is advanced computer support.  We recently celebrated our one year mark for the department so it has worked out very well.  The massive range of issues that we get is amazing and I learn something new every day.  The company I work for is full of amazing co-workers and phenomenal supervisors and management.  I would honestly say that the remark I just made isn’t something I just say; it is earned.  I truly can’t say that about any prior employer with whom I have been employed.

At this point in life you can ask me anything about computers and there is a good possibility that I will know, or can obtain, an answer for you.  I won’t know everything and I will admit when I don’t but I will definitely find out the answer!
